What’s happening

  • EVBox’s parent company ENGIE has decided to liquidate or discontinue most operations of the EVBox group.
  • Orders for EVBox AC-charging stations (the regular home & business models) will no longer be accepted after 15 December 2024.
  • The software/back-office service (Everon) that supports many EVBox chargers will cease full service by 1 December 2025. After that date users may lose management of their charging stations.
  • Manufacturing of new spare parts for AC hardware will also be discontinued (although “on demand” parts may still be available) after 2024.
  • The DC-charger part of EVBox (high-power fast chargers) has been spun off / sold or transferred to another entity (e.g., La Financière de Pessac/EVTronic) to continue under a different structure.

Why it matters

  • If you have an EVBox AC charger installed, by the end of 2025 you may face:
    • No more firmware updates or feature development.
    • Loss of backend services (charging cards, user portals, payment reconciliation) tied to Everon.
    • Difficulty obtaining official spare parts or manufacturer support.
  • From a business or fleet operator perspective, this means increased operational risk (downtime, unsupported hardware, migration needed).
  • For homeowners, even though the charger may continue to work as a “dumb” unit, features tied to software/back-office may stop working.

What to do if you’re an EVBox owner

  • Check your model: Identify if your charger is an EVBox AC model (e.g., Elvi, Livo, BusinessLine) or DC model. AC models are the ones affected significantly.
  • Determine your dependency on software/back-office: If your charging station is managed through Everon, then “backend” services will be impacted.
  • Plan for migration or replacement: Evaluate the cost-benefit of migrating your existing charger to a new back-office (if possible) versus replacing the unit with a newer brand that offers full support.

rOLEC

Replacing your EVBox charger with a Rolec unit offers enhanced features, greater flexibility, and long-term reliability. Rolec Home EV chargers, such as the Evo, Zura, and WallPod, provide up to 22 kW charging capacity, supporting both single and three-phase installations. They are equipped with OCPP 1.6 compliance, ensuring compatibility with various back-office systems. Advanced functionalities include dynamic load balancing, solar PV integration, and PME fault detection, which are especially beneficial for commercial and residential settings.

Additionally, Rolec chargers come with a standard 3-year warranty (5 years for EVO), offering peace of mind and robust support. Given EVBox’s wind-down of its AC charger operations and the discontinuation of Everon services, transitioning to a Rolec charger ensures continued support and access to modern charging technologies.
